Due to the difficulties faced by prospective applicants in the lodgement of online nomination applications for the subclass 190 visa, the NSW Department of Trade and Investment introduced a new invitation process from February 2015.   Under the new nomination application process unveiled by NSW, prospective candidates will first need to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect for a subclass 190 visa and indicate that they wish to be considered for NSW nomination. NSW Trade & Investment will then select and invite candidates to apply for NSW nomination between February and June 2015.   Broadly speaking the steps in lodging an application for a NSW nomination are as follows:

  • Submit an EOI in SkillSelect and select NSW as the preferred state nomination
  • If selected, NSW Department of Trade and Investment will issue an invitation by email to apply for nomination
  • Apply for NSW nomination by submitting an online nomination application within 14 days of receiving the invitation
  • If nominated, an Applicant will receive a SkillSelect invitation to apply for the 190 visa
  • Apply for the subclass 190 visa with the Immigration Department

NSW has indicated that the selection process will be highly competitive and invites will be issued to Applicants based on their ranking on the core criteria in the following order of priority:

  • Points score
  • English language ability
  • Skilled employment experience

In the event there is a tie due to applicants having the same score in the core criteria at time of selection, applicants will be further ranked based on the date and time that their EOI was submitted in SkillSelect.
