Changes to the Australian Institute of Management’s Criteria for Manager for the Purpose of Migration

The Australian Institute of Management (AIM) has introduced changes in its assessment criteria for Manager for the Purpose of Migration to Australia. These changes will apply to all skills assessment applications lodged with MIA on or after 1 July 2010.

AIM is the Australian Government approved professional assessing authority to assess senior management skills for applicants for the purpose of skilled migration to Australia.

AIM provides skills assessments for the following occupations:

  • Corporate General Manager (ANZSCO 111211)
  • Sales and Marketing Manager (ANZSCO 131112)
  • Human Resources Manager (ANZSCO 132311)
  • Engineering Manager (ANZSCO 133211)
  • Supply and Distribution Manager (ANZSCO 133611)

The new criteria require applicants to hold a senior management position for a continuous period of at least three (3) years and not five (5) years as was previously required.

In terms of other criteria, generally speaking AIM still requires the applicant to:

  • Hold or have held a senior management position within the organisation; and
  • Be the owner of the business or directly report to the business owner(s) or be a senior management consultant or related; and
  • Be substantially responsible for achieving the organisation’s financial and strategic outcomes; and
  • Have proven and successful experience in a functional area of management prior to being appointed; and
  • Have the final decision making authority over a wide range of responsibilities.
