The contents of this article are correct as at 3 May 2010.
Although changes to the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program are not expected until mid 2010, information has become available as to the criteria for skills assessment for the occupations of Accountant, Finance Manager, Corporate Treasurer and External Auditor.
CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA) have announced that, from 1 July 2010, applicants will need to meet the following skills assessment criteria for GSM:
Work experience will not be accepted in lieu of formal qualifications.
From 1 July 2010 a successful assessment is valid for two years from the assessment outcome date.
The third skills assessing authority for Accountants, National Institute of Accountants (NIA), is expected to make the same changes to its skills assessment by the end of the week ending Friday 7 May 2010.
